Pink Floyd Avalon, 1968 Poster - Phoenix Picture Framing

Check out my Pink Floyd Avalon Ballroom poster and set of three postcards! This is an original first print poster (approx. 14" x 21 1/2", and printed prior to the shows). Chrome Syrcus & the Holy Modal Rounders warmed up for Pink Floyd. The Holy Modal Rounders were one of the first "weird" groups and were a (sort of) psychedelic folk group. Stacy Sutherland, of the 13th Floor Elevators, said that his crowd used to listen to them prior to them inventing psychedelic rock music.

The poster is in absolutely flawless condition, as are the cards, everything was purchased from Wolfgang's Vault. The poster design is by Jerry Wainwright and Bob Schnepf and is referred to as FD 131 in the Family Dog series. It reflects the Floyd's Saucerful of Secrets LP which is influenced by the Dr. Strange Marvel Comic. The postcards were used for the mailing list. They were mailed out to people in places like Crash Pad #1 and kept the fans abreast of what was happening at the Avalon. It's simple, effective, direct marketing.

For the 1967 Tour of the USA, Bill Graham scored the Pink Floyd. He must've been really sorry about that because Graham did not book the 'Floyd again until 1970; when they were a certified "hit group". The 1967 Tour saw Frontman, Syd Barrett, running amok in Haigh Ashbury and taking every drug known to mankind, mumbling into his porridge: "Where's my guitaaaaaaaaaaa...?", standing on stage and de-tuning his instrument, string-by-string, and then wiggling the loose ends. It finally culminated in his smearing a whole jar of Bryll cream, mixed with crushed Mandrax tablets, over his head before taking the stage at the Cheetah Club in LA.

It was on this USA Tour that the rest of the band realized that he was losing his mind. Ya think? Anyway, Chet Helms, at the Avalon, was famous for taking Bill Graham's sloppy seconds so, maybe, he thought that he could communicate with the way out 'Floyd. Little did he know that Syd would be gone. As Nick Mason explained "the idea wasn't to kick Syd out of the band; we wanted something similar to what the Beach Boys were doing with Brian Wilson at the time, where we'd go out and play live and Syd would stay at home and write".

Annnnnnyway, Esprit Decor framed this for me in a pink frame with pink matting. They double matted in in black/pink to create a pink line around each piece. Esprit Decor is my Phoenix picture framing connect.
