Phoenix Custom Framing - Jerry Lightfoot Posters

Check out these signed Jerry Lightfoot posters that Esprit Decor did for me awhile back. I take all my Phoenix custom framing jobs to them located at: 5555 North 7th Street #122  Phoenix, AZ 85014.

Jerry Lightfoot was a Houston, Texas Blues Guitar Legend who had been around the Texas music scene since the Sixties. A mutual friend once told me that Jerry used to skip school to prowl around Huey P. Meaux's warehouse. Now *that's* dedication and being on the Texas Music Scene early on.

In 1969, Jerry Lightfoot formed a band with Fever Tree Guitarist - Michael Knust. Jerry played bass guitar because NOBODY was going to play over Michael Knust except somebody like Jimi Hendrix or Clapton. The band was called The Ark and got signed to Polydor. They recorded and album that was never issued by Polydor and lost.

He worked tirelessly to help free Roky Erickson when he was confined to Rusk State Mental Hospital for the Criminally Insane. I think that he told me that he put on the very first benefit which was something like the Reefer Madness film followed by music.

Man, could he play guitar. His two heroes were John Cippolina and Stacy Sutherland both of whom he knew personally. Jerry had his own sound; all the Greats do. He knew more about music than any man I have ever known.

This piece of art was his Band of Wonder; and it was a band of wonder. Featuring Jerry on lead, with Vince Welnick of the Grateful Dead, John X Reed, of Doug Sahm's Band, and Carolyn Wonderland. It was an amazing band. Featured also on the poster is Texas Psych Legend - George Kinney who was all but retired out of the business at that time. Jerry always looked out for his friend George Kinney.

Exprit Decor used a light purple matting and metallic purple frame on this gorgeous poster. Jerry told me that he loved this design. The poster is signed by both Jerry Lightfoot and George Kinney.

The next poster features Jerry playing at a place up in his home turf of Houston, Texas. Jerry was (kind of) a Stevie Ray Vaughn type of guy to Houston. The city loved him.

The last poster is a Tour Poster for the 2004 Golden Dawn USA Tour. All of George Kinney's fans dragged him out of retirement for a Tour of the Western United States. Jerry was Lead Guitarist because he could wail out and already knew all of George's songs because he was a huge fan.

Ah yes! The stories I could tell about that Tour! For now, enjoy the poster. Everybody signed it in gold paint pen. Esprit Decor framed it up nicely.

Jerry died in 2006 but Houston holds a Jerry Lightfoot Festival every year to this day! Below is a poster from the 2009 Festival with all Jerry's friends playing including his friends Powell St. John and  George Kinney looking back out for Jerry's interests. Cool.
