Rare 13th Floor Elevators Poster Phoenix Custom Framing Job

Check out this Phoenix custom framing project that Esprit Décor did for me awhile back. I had an old 13th Floor Elevators, Avalon Ballroom, poster that I had mailed around and gotten signed by the entire band. Roky Erickson was the last to sign and I got him backstage at a gig in LA in 2008.

This poster is by Stanley Mouse and is known as “Spaceman”. The image is taken from a Life Magazine photo of an Astronaut in training. This poster promotes 9/1 – 10/1, 1966 gigs at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco. It is an original and sports the Bindwood Press imprint. Signed by everybody this poster is worth $3,000.00 to the sky is the limit. Everybody signed this poster except one of the lyricists, Powell St. John and Stacey Sutherland (Lead Guitar - deceased).

Robert helped me pick an orange frame and blue matting, with orange core, that made the poster “pop”. Included in this post are a high resolution scan of the poster, an acrylic Mouse reproduction on canvas, and a picture of the Roky Erickson signature on my poster in the frame. The acrylic reproduction is from the Chet Helms’ Collection. In the Seventies, Chet, the Family Dog guy, began promoting concerts at the Maritime Academy in San Francisco. Chet had several of the poster artists reproduce enlargements of some of their most well known posters on canvas to hang in the hall as decorations. When the Maritime Academy venture went bust my friend bought this item from Chet right off the all as he was locking up. He paid $100.00 for it and it’s worth $3,000.00 to sky is the limit today.
